Am I allowed to accompany my child for his/her dental visit?
Under the age of three, children receive their dental examinations and cleanings with the parent present and actively involved. At the age of three and above, parents may accompany their children or wait in our reception area.  Studies and experience have shown that most children over the age of three react more positively when permitted to experience the dental visit on their own and in an environment designed for children.*

For parents who choose to remain in the reception area while their children receive care, we request that you stay on the premises during your child’s dental visit. The dentist may need to consult with you about your child’s treatment.
What happens if I miss a scheduled dental appointment?
If you need to cancel your appointment, please give our office at least 48 business hours notice so that another patient in need of care may be seen. If a patient does miss an appointment and does not give the appropriate notice, our policy is as follows…

  • 1st missed appointment– Someone from our office will notify you of your missed appointment to determine if there were any extenuating circumstances.
  • 2nd missed appointment – A fee of $45 will be charged to you. It WILL NOT be billed to your insurance.
  • 3rd missed appointment – At this time, the patient will be dismissed from the practice.

How do I obtain my records if I need to transfer to another dental office?

Though we hope to retain all of our patients, there are times that patients must be transferred to another dental office. A perfect example of this is if a family is moving to another town or state, and we are no longer a convenient location for them to receive their dental care. If this situation arises, we are willing to print your records or transfer them electronically for a one time fee of $25.

What dental insurances do My Mouth Dental and My Kidz Mouth Dental accept?
My Kidz Mouth Dental and My Mouth Dental accept and are in network with most PPO dental insurances.

We also accept Texas CHIP and both plans of Medicaid  (MCNA and Dentaquest).

It is as a courtesy to our patients that we file to these dental insurance companies. It is not always a guarantee of payment. Any outstanding balance after the insurance payment is made is the patient’s responsibility. It also our policy to file and bill to only primary insurance companies for our patients. If you want to file a secondary insurance for your child, we can instruct you on how to do so.
What do I do if my child has a dental emergency?
As your dental provider, we at My Mouth Dental  and My Kidz Mouth Dental are always here for you and your child. If your child falls and is injured while playing at home, school, or a sporting event, and you see or suspect injury to his/her teeth, call our office. Dental trauma can range in severity from a chipped tooth to a tooth that has fallen out or been knocked out due to accident or injury. Parents should always remember that small children, on top of the baby teeth present, also have permanent teeth growing in their jaws that are not fully developed. An injury to a baby tooth that might seem insignificant at the time could cause a defect in the permanent tooth or even problems with its future eruption. Time is also sometimes a critical factor in treating dental emergencies, especially in those cases when a permanent tooth has been pushed out or avulsed.  If a tooth is knocked out and can be found, it should be gently rinsed and placed in a small container of milk or salt water.  Bring the tooth with you to the dental office and the dentist will determine if the tooth can be reimplanted.

Children are active and accidents unfortunately sometimes happen. Call our office and our skilled professionals will examine your child and use the necessary diagnostic measures to determine the appropriate course of action for your child.
How should I care for my child's teeth at home?

Starting a good oral hygiene regimen with your children is very important as it will help develop a foundation that will carry into adulthood.

Before your baby's first teeth erupt, Dr. Ramsey recommends wiping his or her gums with a warm washcloth after each time you feed him or her. This will help wash away excess milk, formula, or baby food and may also be comforting on the gums as teeth begin to arrive.

After your baby begins to teethe, you can start using a toothbrush designed for infants - it should have very soft bristles. You can use it in conjunction with water or a very small amount of toothpaste. We suggest getting fluoride-free toothpaste because swallowing too much toothpaste can cause the teeth to get stained.

You can begin to use larger toothbrushes with stiffer bristles and more toothpaste as your child gets older. You can also begin flossing - make sure you are especially gentle since you child may not be able to express the discomfort.

While you will have to do the brushing and flossing yourself for some time, encourage your child to learn how to do it him- or herself. To ensure there is a good structure around oral hygiene, suggest brushing your teeth together to illustrate that you are dedicated to healthy teeth and gums.

In addition to your at-home care, Dr. Ramsey, along with The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommends scheduling your child's first appointment before the first birthday. Cleanings and exams at a dental office are just as important for children as they are for adults. With the convenience of My Mouth Dental and My Kidz Mouth Dental, you can schedule your kids' appointments with Dr. Ramsey when you go in to visit Dr. Montoya!
